What Causes Acne?
There are millions of people around the world who suffer from acne in varying degrees of seriousness, with the range of people suffering varying from a single occasional pimple to those with acne permanently present on their face. What Causes Acne: Bacteria
The main cause of acne in most people is a specific type of bacteria known as the P. acne bacteria. The bacteria are actually found living in the skin on nearly every person around the world, and the bacteria use the oil produced by the skin as its sustenance. Those who suffer from acne tend to have more bacteria living in their skin than those who don’t, and the presence of too many P. acne bacteria is what causes the skin to break out.
This is because the P. acne bacteria attract more white blood cells to the follicles of the skin than is normal. The white blood cells create a specific enzyme that actually does damage to the skin follicles, and this damage enables the dead skin cells and other contents of the follicles to penetrate into the dermis. This causes the skin to become irritated, which results in the bumps, nodules, and pustules that are commonly associated with acne. In addition, the P. acne bacteria cause fatty acids to form, which further irritates and inflames the hair follicles on the skin.
What Causes Acne: Obstructed Follicles
Another cause of acne is obstructed skin follicles. When the skin is healthy, the skin oil produced is enough to eliminate the skin cells that naturally die off as the skin ages. This aging and dying process of the skin cells is common, but occasionally the process of the dying skin cells is sped up by hormonal or chemical imbalances in the body.
When the skin oil is unable to eliminate the dead skin cells from the skin, the excess skin cells tend to enter the pores of the skin. The skin oil is produced in the pores, and the skin produces more oil with the purpose of getting rid of the dead skin cells. However, thanks to the fact that the skin cells are clogging the pores, the skin oil too gets trapped in the pores.

This results in the skin oil mixing with the dead skin cells, causing the sticky white substance that you have come to know as the white goo inside your pimples. Comedogenesis is the name given to this obstruction of the pores of the skin, as the whitehead or blackhead pimples formed by this obstruction are known as comedones.
When the skin is functioning properly, the oil fills up the pores and overflows onto the surface of the skin. This overflow causes the dead skin cells to be eliminated, and causes the skin to shine and look healthy. However, when the oil is unable to overflow and spill out onto the surface of the skin, you will find that you begin to break out in uncontrollable acne. This is thanks to the skin cells obstructing your pores, and you will need to use some exfoliating cream or acne treatment to get rid of the dead skin cells.
